footsteps is a not-for-profit association of Organisation Development (OD) and development practitioners. (NPO Number 056-721-NPO)
Based in Durban, South Africa, we work on the continent and elsewhere in the world.

Purpose

We support civil society initiatives and their leaders to:

  • strengthen themselves, their organisations and their work
  • think more systemically and strategically
  • find ways of thriving in a volatile context
  • craft strategies and approaches that effect real, sustainable change
  • make a positive difference in their communities, their countries, and the region

Our Vision

A STRONG CIVIL SOCIETY contributing to:

  • social and systems change
  • justice and equality
  • environmental sustainability
  • ethical and effective development practice

Practice

footsteps brings together professionals with decades of experience in:

  • Process Facilitation
  • Organisation Development
  • Change Management
  • Education
  • Skills Development
  • Project Management
  • Coaching
  • Leadership

We combine our skills, knowledge and experience to respond – in the form of projects, programmes and other
offerings – to issues and challenges facing South African and African civil society today.

Principles

footsteps practitioners recognise that …

  • development and change starts from where people and organisations are now
  • we have to see, appreciate and work with whole systems, not isolated parts
  • meaning, intelligence and strategic choices come from encountering and working with complexity, not from avoiding it
  • clients and other stakeholders need to make their own choices: we support processes, ask questions, offer ideas; we do not impose our will
  • our work is all about people – it requires a human response, not just a technical one
